Two Blue

Oh dear, my unswatched pile seems to be growing and growing. So many polishes, so little time. Today I've swatched two bird with one stone though!

First up is two coats of Sally Hansen ~ Himalayan Blue.

Sally Hansen Himalayan Blue

Then on top of I that I put 1 coat of Angelica ~ Angel. Wow, I love this polish! The photos really don't do it justice, such a beautiful all over pink shimmer.

Angelica Angel

Angel looks to be similar to Models Own ~ Indian Ocean, I don't own that one though so am only going on pictures I've seen. What do you think?

Nails: Revlon ~ Powder Puff

My brain is so full of christmas I'm not sure I can form coherent sentences today so I'll keep it short and sweet. I've got a swatch of Powder Puff from Revlon for you. This is three coats of it here, application is ok, it's a little thin. If I wasn't so lazy I would have done another coat as there's still a tiny bit of visible nail line.

Revlon Powder Puff

It's white with very subtle blue shimmer and a matte finish. It reminds me of porcelain. From other swatches I've seen it looks really pretty if you add a shiny top coat too.

I've used this as the base for a christmas mani so hopefully I'll get time to upload that this weekend. I'm going out for my work christmas lunch this afternoon, the menu looks so yummy, I can't wait! Hope everyone has an awesome day C:

Two Gingerbread Houses and a Mini Army

What time is it? Gingerbread time! It's that time of year that I spend hours making gingerbread houses that I won't even eat. Other people enjoy them though and that's what counts. Also they look cute.

Gingerbread Houses

This year I thought I'd make a few smaller ones so I could distribute them between more people. In my mind I thought they would come out smaller than they did, I ended up with only two out of one batch of dough. I probably could have squeezed three out of it but instead I made a bunch of cute mini gingerbread men too.

Gingerbread Men

I found some nice cellophane gift bags in poundland of all places! I felt a bit bad putting the little men in there though and tying it up, I thought "they won't be able to breathe, they'll suffocate!". Silly me XD

Gingerbread Men Bagged

I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in me sharing the template I used for the houses this year as I made it myself? Leave me a comment if you would and I'll make a printable version of it.

Nails ~ King of Carat Flowers

Yay, indie polish! Here's my first polish from Hare ~ King of Carat Flowers. This is two coats over Rimmel ~ 402 Dream which is a very pale grey.

There's so much going on in here and it's so unique, I love it. I'm sure the bottle shot describes it much better than I could with words.

It was also pretty fun getting hold of this, refreshing/waiting for it to go up on their etsy store and then....mad rush, buy buy buy! Like a virtual version of a hoard of people stampeding into a store when they open for a huge sale!

Skincare Routine - Back to Basics

Recently I've been having some trouble with my skin, developing a nasty patch of acne on my chin and generally just being more spotty. I think that it's probably hormonal and related to the contraceptive implant I got a few months ago although that may just be coincidence. It's been making me feel really self conscious, I'm almost 28 and I feel like I've got worse skin than most teenagers! And my normal skincare routine didn't seem to be helping one bit so I decided to try something different.

I researched a whole bunch of things to try and decided to start with the cheapest option and work my way up from there if needed. I remembered reading on Makeup Savvy some time ago about cleansing with soap and cutting out all other products so this is what I started with and it's really been helping!

I've been using Pears Transparent Soap, washing my face first thing in the morning and last thing at night (most days, considering how lazy I normally am I think I've been doing well!) and then putting on a small amount of moisturizer in the areas that feel like they need it. No more specific cleansers, toners or face washes.

My main problem area has stopped spreading and is clearing up, I've still been getting the odd small spot but no more huge ones like before. So I'm going to carry on with my soap only cleansing, it's better for my skin and my wallet! :D

Thought Bubble Outfit

Apart from my hands you don't really actually see a lot of me on my blog so this will be a change from the norm!

Two weeks ago there was a comic book convention in Leeds called Thought Bubble which I've attended for the last few years. I'm not majorly into comics but I like going for the atmosphere and seeing friends and they have a lot of stalls selling some great art.

So here's what I wore

Thought Bubble Outfit

Outfit Rundown
Dress and Headbow ~ Baby The Stars Shine Bright (L'oiseau Bleu)
Blouse ~ Dream V
Shoes ~ Bodyline
Wig ~ Cyperous
Tights ~ Primark

If you're not familiar with the style it's a Japanese fashion called Lolita ~ "based on Victorian-era clothing as well as costumes from the Rococo period" ~ although some it has strayed pretty far from those influences now! You can read more about it here if you're interested

Nails: Pink Panther

A few months ago I bought my very first indie polishes from Lush Lacquer on Etsy. One of these was Pink Panther ~ pink, white and black matte glitters in a clear base.

Pink Panther Bottles

I've used it in this mani along with W7 Black and e.l.f. Gum Pink

Pink Panther

Sadly I've actually lost my little Pink Panther bottle since taking these pictures. I made the mistake of leaving it downstairs unsupervised and I guess it looked like a fun thing to play with for the cats! Spent ages looking for it under sofas, kitchen appliances and other furniture but no luck :( We did however find the bathroom sink plug under one sofa which had gone missing the week before, little devils!! Keeping my fingers crossed still that it will turn up unexpectedly one day, lesson learnt though at least, no more polishes left downstairs!

Meet the Kitties

Back in July Me and Mat adopted these two gorgeous girls from Cats Protection. They had been found by someone in a garage, born to a feral mum. When we went to meet them at their foster home they were both so small and timid, Lupercal especially, it took a while before we could even approach her without her hissing at us but we fell in love and decided to take these two home.

Well in no time at all they had settled in and realised that they now had two very dedicated cat slaves to look after them! Now they are both 6 months old and doing great.

This is Lupercal, Loopy for short. As you can see she's good at posing for photos :D a typical aloof cat although she does secretly enjoy a bit of attention, on her terms of course!

And this is Cake, the attention seeking missile. She's just a little fluffy ball of cuddles and loves nothing more than spending an entire evening sat on one of ours laps, especially if it means she can distract us from whatever we're trying to do. Sometimes we think she's actually a dog as she follows us around everywhere!

They can both be little terrors sometimes, Cake loves to chew everything and Lupercal is a climber and a clawer, but we love them both to bits and wouldn't change them for the world <3

Nails: Half Moon Owl

Owls are so in right now. What's that all about? Everywhere you look, owls. Not that I'm complaining, owls are great :D I spotted this tutorial for owl nails on pinterest and thought it looked easy enough to give a go. I'm not very good at free hand nail art as I do not have steady hands but these were no problem! And sooooo adorable.

Owl Nails

I can't remember all the polishes I used but the base and dark brown are both from elf. And the belly brown too I think. I like their polishes but they seem to take a really long time to dry fully.

Are you going to give these a go or are you fed up of seeing owls everywhere? *hoot hoot*

Nails: Angelica ~ Brit Pop

Ok, first thing's first, I apologise for being total fail and going m.i.a. for months! Just got totally swamped with real life, kittens especially can be very distracting :D

Anyway, let's just get straight back to business. So a while ago I saw this new brand Angelica in Primark, I'm not sure if it's exclusive to/made by them but I haven't seen it anywhere else? They seemed a bit pricey for Primark at £2.50 but in the grand scheme of things not expensive. They had some interesting new colours when I went in last month so I decided to take the plunge and try a couple.

Angelica Brit Pop

And this is the first of these - Brit Pop. A multi coloured, densely packed glitter in a clear base. I have swatched two coats of Angelica Brit Pop it over a Barry M, Cobalt Blue I think?

Angelica Brit Pop Closeup

For the price I am incredibly pleased! Cheap glitter polishes tend to be really sparse but this wasn't a problem here.

Angelica Brit Pop Manicure

I'm going to make an effort to get back into my blogging, I have a fancy new camera so no excuses now! And soooo many new polishes to swatch, I think I might be a little bit addicted XD If you're already a follower thanks for sticking with me and if you're new here thanks for visiting

Nails: Happy Easter!

It's been a hectic but great couple of weeks. My dad and his wife and kids came to visit last weekend and I started my new job on Monday. I won a competition and a giveaway this week too, I haven't won anything since I was at school so I was pretty giddy about both of those. And now finally I've had a couple of days to relax and catch up with things like blogging and tidying up.

I somehow found the time to do an easter/spring themed mani this week. Pastel skittles with white polka dots. I don't have a dotting tool so I just used a bobbi pin.

Easter Skittles

I am so pleased with this design, I'm actually pretty reluctant to remove it. Whether you're celebrating easter or doing something else this weekend, I hope you have a fantastic one!

Rolo Cookies

I'm all settled in my house now, it's great, I finally have space to bake again! I have numerous boards on Pinterest of things I want to try out so this weekend I picked these Rolo Cookies. When I went to take pictures I found that my camera was out of juice so I thought I'd have a go with instagram on my phone instead.

These were pretty easy to make, it was fun rolling them into balls with the rolo in the middle and they taste great too! I was also going to make some cinnamon cookies yesterday but ended up not having time so they're next on my to do list.

Nails: Technic Holo

Being on a bit of a tight budget at the moment and not currently owning any holos I was pretty excited when I saw this Technic Holographic polish pop up in my local Bodycare a few weeks ago. I've seen a pretty bad review for it online which I really don't think it deserves. Sure, compared to pictures of other holos I've seen it's not amazing but for the price you do get a nice bit of holo effect, albeit more subtle.

I've done an absolutely terrible job of capturing it in these photos, it is so much better in real life, especially in the sunshine. I actually almost missed my stop on the bus the first morning I was wearing it as the sun was streaming in through the window and I was so mesmerised looking at it! D'oh XD

I've got a lot of stuff planned for my blog over the next few weeks, including a little giveaway, so if you like my posts or just want some free stuff please follow me with GFC, like me on Facebook or subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks!

Nails: Poisoned Peacock

Another old mani for you here from a couple of months ago, my first attempt at half moons. When I first saw half moon nails cropping up I wasn't really all that keen on how they looked but the style slowly grew on me and after trying it out myself I actually really like it now.

17 Lasting Finish Peacock

I started off with a couple of coats of Boots 17 Lasting Finish in Peacock which I've photographed on it's own here as a cheeky swatch. Such a pretty, vibrant colour!

Poisoned Peacock

Then I used one of the W7 Planets polishes (sorry, I can't remember which one?!) and some of those little sticky hole punch re-enforcing circles to mask out the half moon section.

Nails: Wocka Wocka With Extra Sparkle

I'm finally back! Mostly set up in my new home now although I've got a lot of decorating to do. And my nails are back to some kind of not awful condition. All the cleaning I had to do before I moved totally killed my hands but I've been trying hard to moisturise lots and take better care of them now.

First off though I've got a couple of old manis to share with you. This one is using Wocka Wocka from the Muppets O.P.I collection. I finally got to see this movie last month, it took so long to come out over here in the U.K, I absolutely loved it, so much LOLs and great songs from Bret McKenzie.

Wocka Wocka

My photos do really not do this polish justice. It's a beautiful deep, vibrant red with a really subtle pink shimmer. After a days wear I decided to jazz it up a bit with some gold stripes and glitter, can't beat a bit of glitter.

Gold Wocka

Here's what I used
Sally Hansen Hard as Nails
O.P.I. Muppets ~ Wocka Wocka
Barry M Foil Effects ~ Gold
e.l.f ~ Golden Goddess
Sally Hansen Mega Shine

Quick Update

Hello! I'm still here, sorry I haven't posted much lately. I've been doing the pretending to be an adult thing and bought a house! I haven't moved in yet but I've been busy cleaning and sorting and organising things, hence not having much time for my blog.

All the cleaning has destroyed my nails a bit though, I haven't even had time to paint them for almost two weeks! But maybe soon I'll have lots of other things to post about, specifically all the decorating I have to do. I'm looking forward to it :) So I'll be back soon, take care until then.

Turquoise Ombre Nails

Something a bit more challenging this week! If you didn't know, ombre means a colour that is graduated in tone, thanks google for summing that up so nicely for me. In this case I started out with Boots No7 Stay Perfect Nail Colour in Stand Back on my middle nail and then mixed with white going towards my little finger and black towards my thumb.

Ombre Nails

If you're lucky enough to have 5 different shades of one colour you can just do it that way, painting one on each nail but I went for the cheaper, messier method. I love the results though, will definitely be doing this again in future!

Nails: Hello Kitty London ~ Light Pink

After the mediocore results from the last Hello Kitty nail polish I tried I was much happier with this one. I've been wanting a pearlescent pink for a while so was happy to see this colour in the set I got. It still took me 3 coats to get decent coverage but I really love the colour. I'm not sure why but it made me feel like I had Barbie nails.

Hello Kitty London - Light Pink

I did a bit of stamping over this one as well. I really need to practice more at getting all my stamps straight, that thumb is a mess!

Hello Kitty London Nail Set

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great christmas and a happy new year. I'm back and feeling rejuvinated after a couple of weeks of relaxation and eating far too much.

I got some awesome gifts this year, including this Hello Kitty nail polish set.

Hello Kitty Nail Set

It includes 5 polishes (Light Pink, Purple, Pink, Pink Sparkle, Clear Sparkle), some toe seperators and a nail file. One thing, it seems that this year any sets that come with plastic packaging like this, the individual items have been glued in! I've never seen this before but these polishes were and I bough a set of bubble baths and they were glued into their plastic as well. It's really annoying as it's a nightmare to get the glue off. Not a big deal, I know, but still....*rant over*

I decided to try out the pink first. Sadly, it was a bit dissapointing. The brush is really slim and unsubstantial so it's not the easiest to apply and the colour isn't very pigmented. So even after 3 coats it wasn't entirely opaque.

Hello Kitty London - Pink

I'm not sure what's happend with my photo here, the colour looked fine when I was editing it but when I saved it, it's turned it more pale and peachy, it's definitely more pink in real life.
