Swatch: Iconic Effect ~ Princess Drops

Guess what?! Finally we have indie polish makers popping up in the UK! *Fist pump*! One of these being Iconic Effect. I recently bought this polish, Princess Drops, and another, Pea Soup, from their first collection. Princess Drops actually sold out (2 days before I got paid, I was waiting to order!) but the girls from Iconic Effect were so lovely and helpful and told me if I ordered the other polish I wanted the would sort out Princess Drops for me the week after when they received more supplies ♥

Iconic Effect - PrincessDrops

On to the polish! Princess drops is a pretty pastel glitter polish in a clear base with a mixture of hearts, stars and flowers, slightly smaller diamonds, hexagons and tiny flecks. There's so much going on in here! The formula is fairly thin but I found this really helped me to get the big pieces positioned nicely. I've got one coat of the glitter on here and didn't require too much fishing or fiddling around.

Princess Drops - Bottle

For some reason I went a bit mad decided to put it over this horrible yellow I got in a set from H&M. I think it worked pretty nicely though and looks really summery.

Princess Drops - Close Up

And finally a close up of the bottle, such a pretty combination of colours.

There are only a couple of colours left in Iconic Effects etsy shop but they are currently planning there next collection so follow them on facebook for news and sneak peaks!

Swatch: Lush Lacquer ~ Birthday Cake

I think this has got to be one of my fave indie polishes, it was one of the first ones I bought and with a name like Birthday Cake how could I resist.

Birthday Cake Swatch

I've got two coats on here. It would probably have a bit more 'pop' with some white undies but I like it as is, a bit more subtle if that's possible?!

Birthday Cake

Lush Lacquer have got loads of gorgeous crazy neon-ness going on at the moment, it's a shame that with all the UK shipping troubles and steep price increases for postage I've been put off buying stuff for a while.

Swatch: Sinful Colors ~ Glass Pink

Yay, Sinful Colors available at boots in the UK?! And in the 3 for 2 offer, don't mind if I do. I was actually away in Nottingham when I was lucky enough to spot these as they weren't being stocked in the Leeds city centre store. Here's the first one I tried, Glass Pink

Sinful Colors - Glass Pink

This is 3 coats, it's really sheer so you'd need something underneath if you didn't want visible nail line. It's so pretty though, beautiful and shimmery.

I managed to snag Cinderella as well which is the one I'd really been lusting after, not been in the mood for blue nails though so haven't tried that one out yet,

Swatch: Nails Inc ~ Primrose Hill

Yet another of my nails inc lucky pack polishes here, Primrose Hill. A gorgeous grey/purple quite similar to Barry M's Dusky Mauve although a bit paler maybe?

Primrose Hill - Swatch

This swatch is from a while ago, can't remember how many coats I used. Really love this shade though, for the first time ever I think I had a stranger compliment the colour!

Portal Companion Cube Dress

So here's what has been taking up all my spare time the last couple of weeks! My local Lolita group have been planning a themed fandom/geek meet for a while and it finally came around last weekend. I decided that I wanted to make a dress based on the companion cube from the Portal video games. It took a bit longer than I expected, I had to draft a new bodice block, but it was so worth it. I love it!!

Companion Cube Dress - Front

Companion Cube Dress - Back

And the meet was so much fun, everyone put loads of effort into their outfits, I loved seeing them all. I hope we'll have another fandom meet one day, I already have more ideas. Here's me wearing my dress.

Companion Cube Dress - Worn

I learnt a bunch of new techniques making this too - box pleats, encased shirring, modifying my basic bodice block. Usually I'm fed up with sewing after finish a project (probably because I usually leave things too late and end up having to rush *stress*) but not this time! I cant wait to do more.

Swatch: Nails Inc ~ Berkeley Mews

Urrgh, so I've been a pretty bad blogger lately! I've been really struggling with my energy levels and was ill again last week. But I haven't given up, I'm still here!!

After nearly two weeks of nude nails I fancied something really dark and bold so picked Berkeley Mews as my next nails inc to try.

Nails Inc - Berkeley Mews Swatch

This almost black blue has a subtle shimmery pop under the right light and only needs one coat for full coverage. I feel like this would look great with some stamping over it but don't think I'm going to have time this week unfortunately. There needs to be more hours in the day.

Nails Inc - Berkeley Mews

In other news I've started a sewing project! I'm making a Portal Companion Cube dress for the Leeds Lolitas Fandom/Geek meet in April, really hope I can get it finished in time, need to get a move on with it.

Swatch: Nails Inc ~ Gatwick

Gatwick from Nails Inc is a classic red shade with a matte twist. This isn't something I'd normally buy as I dont really see the point of specific matte polishes when I have a matte top coat. I was happy to have the oppertunity to try a matte finish from a different brand though.

Nails Inc Gatwick Swatch

I have one coat on my nails here. This is after a days wear and you can see there's already some tip wear and chipping on my index finger. It was also pretty messy to get off, red everywhere!

Nails Inc Gatwick

Despite the negatives I still like this polish, it's a great shade.

Nails Inc Lucky Dip Haul

I think it's safe to say this is the most I've ever spent on nail polish in one go before. Last week Nails Inc was running one of their lucky dip promotions, it's such a bargain, 7 polishes for £17 - so that's less than £2.50 each when they normally retail for £11+. I got two sets, Metallics and Special Effects, and since that was close to the threshold for free shipping I popped one of the sale polishes in my basket too.

So here's what I got!

Metallics: berkeley mews, cadogan lane, providence crescent, stafford terrace, montrose place, primrose hill, lanesborough place

Special Effects: kensington palace (magnetic), gatwick (matte), abbey road (holographic), london town (magnetic), the wyndham (glitter), camden town (crackle), farringdon (glitter crackle)

Also not pictured, my 'free shipping' polish - swiss cottage.

Can't wait to try these out, very happy with what I got!

Swatch: w7 ~ Moondust

Right, back to business! Today I have a simple swatch of Moondust from w7.

w7 Moondust Swatch 2

It's a silver glitter with red and blue particles that give it a kind of faux scatter holo effect. I'm wearing two coats here.

w7 Moondust Swatch

It's very pretty but I get the feeling it's going to be a nightmare to get off. It has a rough finish despite the topcoat I put on. Moondust is the perfect name for it though, I feel like I have astronaut nails!

Friday Feels ~ 4

Hello! Sorry for no nail posts this week. Got hit at the beginning of the week with a cold and just didn't have the energy to do my nails, they were actually naked for several days! I'm feeling better now and my nails have colour again.

To make up for my absence this week, here's some of my favourite cat gifs.

Whilst were on the subject of cats this music video has been circulating this week.

And if you still haven't got your fill of cat related goodness I strongly recommend checking out Cat Gif Page and The Chives: Cat Saturday feature

Sat-ART-Day Club - Dotting Tools

This weeks Sat-ART-Day club theme is dotting tools. I had something a bit more complicated in mind but I tested it on my right hand and wasn't really happy with it. I still need more practice with my dotting tools!

SatARTDay PolkaDot

I used my base from my previous mani, added dots in different shades of grey and finished with a matte top coat. I was actually pretty organised this week and got it done in advance instead of leaving it until Saturday evening!

Nails: Angelica ~ Twilight

Another Angelica swatch for you today. As I've mentioned before these are stocked in Primark, they also now have a web shop which stocks a limited selection if you aren't able to get them at your local store.

Angelica Twilight

Twilight is a slightly duochromey navy blue frosted polish with pinky purple undertones. I think it's really nice wearable colour, dark but soft. This is two generous coats.

Angelica Twilight-Bottle

Angelica have recently announced a new range of matte spring colours which look lovely, I've got my eye on the baby pink one in particular.

Sat-ART-Day Club - Away With the Fairies

Week two of the Sat-ART-Day club, this weeks theme was 'Away with the Fairies'. Instead of doing a manicure that specifically featured fairies I tried to go for more of a fairies eye view of the world.

Away With the Fairies

It doesn't come across much in the picture but I've used a flakey top coat for extra sparkle. I'm actually pretty happy with how these turned out, I'm really enjoying this challenge, it's pushing me to be more creative!

Cirque ~ Your Hand in Mine

I have something special today, my very first proper product review! I was so happy to be picked by Sally from Sally Magpies as one of the bloggers to try out the latest addition to her stock ~ Cirque. I think I did a little flappy arm dance when I saw the email! Well, on to business.

Cirque - Your Hand in Mine

The official blurb from Cirque for Your Hand in Mine is "A soft white polish with a subtle rainbow shimmer". This sums up this polish perfectly. Consistency is pretty spot on for me, it applied really nicely and the drying time is great. It's quite a sheer polish so would probably make a good topper, I've used 3 coats here, although there is a little visible nail line it's almost opaque.

Cirque - Your Hand in Mine - Rainbow Shimmer
I've tried to capture the rainbow shimmer here
Click the image to view it full size

The full range of Cirque polishes are available in the UK from stockist Sally Magpies. Sally stocks a variety of imported polishes so you can buy without the worry of shipping from overseas or getting hit with import tax or fees. I have bought from her previously and will do again in future, she is really friendly and offers great service. You can usually get in touch with her on the Sally Magpies Facebook page if you have any queries or requests.

Disclaimer: This polish was sent to me for review, all opinions are honest and my own.

Sat-ART-Day Club - Amethyst Pattern Skittle

I've been wanting to join in with a group challenge for a while, however I know I would never be able to stick to one of the 31 days ones so when I saw the Sat-ART-Day Club on Crumpet's Nail Tarts recently I thought this one was worth a go! Here's my take on the theme Amethyst Pattern Skittle.

Amethyst Skittles
Polishes/Stamps Used:
No7 ~ Lucky Lilac (Index and pinky base)
Star Gazer ~ 235 (Middle finger)
Revlon ~ No Shrinking Violet (Ring finger base)
Barry M Gelly ~Plum (Index stamping)
Konad ~ Special White (Ring stamping)
BM-212 Stamping Plate

Hopefully I've done all this right with it being my first time! Check out the links below for the other awesome interpretations of this challenge.

Friday Feels ~ 3

My new sneakers from Japan arrived this week. They're from a company called Swimmer who basically sell various cute junk! They also have this amazing cat bag which I'm slightly in love with at the moement.

Wonderful local independent shop Life's Big Canvas is trying to raise some money so they can produce some beautiful cat necklaces inspired by the owners very own cats. More details can be found on their indiegogo page here or if you're in the Leeds area you can always check out the shop itself located at Bird's Yard.

BMO Is No Robot

Mixing indie brands here, is that allowed?! Well I think they're a great match. I've used Pretty & Polished - BMO Me Up for the base colour and have Glitzology - Robots In Love on my accent nail.

BMO is no robot

It's really hard to capture the true beauty of these two. BMO Me Up has some incredibly subtle red and blue shimmer and Robots In Love is just packed full of holotastic glitters of all shapes and sizes including stars, diamonds and hearts.

BMO is no robot - blur

Glitzology are actually the newest addition to my indie collection and I have to say I haven't seen any photos that really convey how amazing these polishes look in real life. I have 4 shades from them and they are all soooo sparkly, they really live up to their name.

Friday Feels ~ 2

I've seen quite a few pastel glitter polishes this week and they're really piquing my interest at the moment. Perfect for spring

Top: Darling Diva Polish ~ Zoey Jane
Bottom: Gloss 'n' Sparkle ~ Unicorn Spawn

Another silly thing, sticking googley eyes on inanimate objects! Also known as eyebombing. Someone in the office I work in actually ordered some eyes so we could do this! Here's a few of ours

Hope everyone has a good weekend, I'm looking forward to a super chilled out one. I've picked up my pokemon cross-stitch again so I'm going to be working on that.

Nails: Gilded Flowers

My nails have been a bit plain lately, trying to get my untrieds and new polishes swatched, but here I've managed to use three untrieds and do some nail art/stamping that I'm happy with, yay!

Gilded Flowers
Polishes/Stamps Used:
Sally Hansen ~ Royal Romance
BYS ~ N66 Astro Gold
Barry M ~ Gold Foil
Pretty & Polished ~ Vampire Sing-a-Long
BM-221 Stamping Plate

I tried stamping with the BYS Astro Gold polish to start with but it was too sheer so swapped to the trusty Barry M Gold Foil. Royal Romance is a really interesting purple with a slight gold undertone which means it pairs really nicely with the rest of the gold in this mani. And I got all my stamp placement spot on for a change, can't wait to try more of my new bundle monster plates now. Going to enjoy this for a few days first though!

Friday Feels

Something totally different today! I've decided that I'm going to try and do a sort of regular feature on a Friday about things that I'm really loving this week.

Funniest thing on the internet, the latest bread based craze, Baguette Me Nots! Basically you replace an everyday object with a baguette and take a photo. Simple :D

The song that is totally stuck in my head at the moment is You Keep Giving Me Love by Jenn D. Jenn used to be in a band called Soft Toy Emergency who I absolutely loved. Unfortunately they went their seperate ways a couple of years ago but now Jenn is going solo. I wasn't really that keen on her last single but I can't get enough of this one!

What's really got your attention this week guys? Let me know :)

Pretty & Polished ~ Granny Smith

Earlier this month Pretty & Polished were selling some grab bags on their etsy store. Lucky packs/grab bags are one of the things I have a weakness for so I couldn't resist! They actually have some left if you're interested.

I ordered two of the 2 Minis bags, the arrived yesterday and I'm really pleased with what I got - Granny Smith, Martian Salad, Party On My Yacht and Power Cosmic. Greens aren't normally what I'd go for but the two I received are lovely and two glitter polishes, yes!

I liked the look of Granny Smith so much I decided to try that one out first.

Pretty and Polished - Granny Smith

It's a gorgeous metallic-y yellow green and it really does look like apples!

I've bought far too much polish already this month, my untried draw is getting almost as full as my tried so I'm going to try to put myself on a spending ban until I've got through a decent chunk of the untrieds. Hmmm, we'll see how that goes...

Hits No Olimpo ~ Hermes

I can be a bit stingy when buying polishes sometimes, always checking my local discount shops and drug stores for a bargain, well I want to get the most for my money! But over christmas and in the January sales I splashed out on a few treats and things I wouldn't normally buy.

First of these was some holos from Sally Magpies as she had a sale on new years day. This was my first time ordering from her, it was so nice to be able to buy from a shop based in the UK! I bought Hits No Olimpo - Hermes and Hestia and Layla Hologram Effect - Cloudy Violet and Emerald Divine.

Hits Hermes

I decided to try out Hermes first and boy am I pleased with it! Definitely worth treating myself to this lovely polish.

I took the photo under artificial light. We don't really get the sunshine here in the north of England to show off holos at their best, especially at this time of year! Fortunately it still looks gorgeous even when the holo isn't being brought out. I'd say the golden colour is a touch warmer in real life.

Hits Hermes Bottle

This is one of those polishes where I catch myself checking my nails out all the time because it just looks so lovely. I'm really excited to try out the rest of my new purchases now too. I also bought the two a-england polishes on my wish list, Iseult and Morgan Le Fay, as they have a sale on right now for their second anniversary. Along with my new Bundle Monster stamping plates that just arrived I have a lot of new things to play with!

Nails: Mathematical!

So happy my Mathematical set from Pretty & Polished finally arrived! I am a massive Adventure Time fan so when I saw these I absolutely couldn't resist. There was no way I could pick just one to try first so I tried five! These are all over one coat of white.

Man, I love these so much. The Young Hero (Finn) is my favourite I think, feel like I will get the most wear out of that one. Here's the bottles, I got the minis.

I've got three left to try, especially looking forward to BMO Me Up, it has a beautiful subtle blue shimmer to it that doesn't come across in any of the photos I've seen.

Who's your favourite Adventure Time character? I love the Ice King! He's so misunderstood, poor guy. And Lemongrab is great too, he makes me laugh!

All Of The Pink

The hardest part of blogging for me - coming up with the titles. Urrgh, why is it so difficult?!

Christmas holidays are nearly over, back to work tomorrow. It's been great to have some time off and more time to chill and do stuff like paint my nails. Life feels like it's been pretty hectic the last couple of months.

Pink Party

This mani was inspired by The Polished Perfectionist, I wish mine looked as flawless as hers! At least I feel like my photography is getting a bit better.

Here's what I used
e.l.f. ~ Fair Pink
Nails Inc ~ Shoreditch
Color Club ~ Hot Couture (I think?)
